Green Screen Practice

The other member of my group and I were thinks about doing green screen. So we both went and did lots of research and looked at some tutorials (like the one above). Then we both discussed and decided that we would use green screen in our music video.

Above is the tutorial that we came across which helped us the most to learn about the green screen effect in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 which is the program we are using to make are music video.
First thing we realized was that getting an actual green screen, a professional one that is, was going to be extremely pricey, to be specific were talking £60 - £200 - pretty much out of my hands...but I came across a few videos that pretty much encouraged the viewers to just go and get some green or blue fabric, some good lighting and something to hold the screen up. So what we did is look on amazon and found a cheap green screen that we could use.

When we used the green screen we use are schools drama room and there lighting. This was so that we could distribute the lighting which was not only helpful but was really effective when we were filming. This is because we didn’t have any shadow lines and also we were able to control the amount of lighting that was needed.

So we then decided to do a practice scene with the green screen before we did our final piece so we could familiarise ourselves with the software and understand how to create the effect without any difficulties.

While learning how to use the green screen effect on Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, we came across a few problems such as areas on the actress' body that were opaque which revealed the back ground image onto her clothing which were not meant to appear, but with the help of the tutorial we were able to fix this and this resulted in a very good piece of practice footage!

Here is the final green screen practice footage.

The short verson of the Process when useing green screen:-
Opened Program > 'Project' on the toolbar > 'Import Media' > Found the Media files I wanted to import (background image and movie file) > Dragged the movie file to the 'Text' section on the timeline and the background image on the 'Video' section of the timeline'> Right clicked the movie file > Selected 'Media FX/Video Event FX' > Selected 'Sony Chroma Keyer' > Clicked 'Add' > Selected dropper tool and picked out the green on the video file by clicking on the green screen > Altered the amount of 'Low' and 'High' Threshold until I got the desired effect

General research – Music videos

A music video is a short piece of footage that represents a song from an artist which is shown visually. Most music videos feature the artist who recorded the song singing or lip-syncing their own song on-screen. Although the artist is not always in the video, dialogue could be included into a music video like a film which entertains audiences for example dance videos. On the other hand they usually use a music video to released a music video after a song is made, but it is not always the case.
Music videos use various styles of film making techniques such as live action filming, pre-recorded filming, animation, documentaries, bricolage where references of different things that have been already created for example including clips of other existing films that relate to the song. But it could also be used for entertainment purposes such as showing clips of a very popular film which has gained high publicity which will then attract audiences who were interested in that certain film but is simply not related to the song lyrics/ or artist.

An example of some websites that show music videos are:-
- Youtube
-Choice fm
-Muzu tv
-Googel videos
-Viva
-and so many more.

Music Video Treatment

Music Video Treatment

Song: One and Only
Artist: Adele

The artist we are working for is Adele, who writes, produces and performs her own songs. We have chosen to produce a music video, and a Digi pack which will include designing the DVD cover and Magazine advert promoting the artist and the Digi- Pack.

Narrative
The song is about a girl who is torn between whether she is falling for the one she loves and the problems between them. The majority of the performer’s videos consist of her sitting down a lot with elements of choreography. So what we have decided to do for this song is to have a narrative performance with the elements of the performer sitting.
There is a small scene at the beginning were it will start with the performer walking out on to the stage as the song starts. Then throughout the song we will be cross cutting between the performance and the narrative story.
As she does so she is looking through or coming across certain things that remind her of her boyfriend for example, gifts, pictures, videos. These items represent flashbacks of the good times they had together. Towards the end of the song we see scenes/flashbacks showing the problems and arguments that resulted in the break up. For example there are scenes where:
-She is standing at their meeting place waiting for him. .
-they are disputing (which is the prequel to the introductory scene).

Locations
The main idea of the music video is for it to convey heartbreak, loneliness and confusion felt by the performer. This is shown through the conventional locations which represent these emotions i.e. bedroom, park etc. The locations we will be using is mainly is the school hall and a bedroom as well as some other romantic locations such as the beach and park

Pace
Throughout this song the pace is quite slow, however during the bridge the song the pace slows down a little but picks up at the end, so what we have decided to do for that is to make a quick cross cut which shots of pictures of happy and sad moments in their life and merge it with the narrative. This would make the telling of the song come across stronger till the very end.

Colour/Tone
The video will be in black and white (greyscale) and have the flashbacks in colour to signify the sadness without him in her life and the happiness she feels when she thinks about him. The pace of the video is fairly moderate as it has to fit the beat of the song which is not very fast, or the other way.
On the DVD the main image is close up of the artist. This is simple and effective as it requires little effort from the audience to decode.

The Artist/Style and Form

We will be endorsing some of the modern conventions of an R&B music video as
we will be using:
        Flashbacks
Black & white as well as color shots.
·         Locations: such as forty hall, the house & places of them together. Therefore this signifies that they are an official couple, yet she still is uncertain about being with him. Also of the actor being alone in these places showing they have broken up.
Idea of her watching the home video of them together on the TV.
Narrative- we will be using a conceptual style of video, as this follows a ballad format.
Aesthetics- the style will be modern yet have a unique style it would be
·         fairly representative of the genre.
Mise-en-scene:
Picture frame/Photo Album: the audience is able to understand how their relationship was by little things such as this. It also emphasizes the unity and how she was happy then compared to now.
Necklace/Watch/Jewellery: This would be representative of the artist as being
quite sentimental and she cares about her image.
Costume/Make-Up: At times we will see Naina wearing loose baggy clothes which will show that she is a relaxed and calm person, but during the shots that will be filmed on the street etc, she will be wearing smart/sophisticated/high fashion clothes which will emphasize her uniqueness and elegance. Faze will consistently wear loose sports clothes such as tracksuits which will show that he is casual and stress-free.
Lighting: There will be shots of Naina playing the keys of the song on a piano
alone in a darkened room with strong light from the window. The objective of this shot is to highlight her loneliness and how she is independent and in control of
her own life.
Technology : As well as using the technology required to produce this video, we will be trying to extend our use of technology to as much as there is available to us and make the most of it, although it is limited compared to what signed artists have.

Filming
The filming equipment will be using is a Canon LEGRIA FS306. This camera has a good quality picture. The camera is a small and it makes is easier to film shots steadily. Also this camera takes in memory card  (SD card). I will be using a standard tripod to help me get steady shots and for the editing I will be using Adobe Premiere CS5 software. This is what we also used last year. However this year we will be using green screen as well.

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are three students from St. Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls in Enfield, North London, writing to you on the hope of getting permission to use a song by one of your artists to make a music video for our A level Media coursework.
The song in question is `One and Only` by Adele on her album `21` on behalf of the record labels XL, Columbia, we are aware there is no music video already produced for this song and we would greatly appreciate permission to use this song, as we believe this song will give us a lot of inspiration into making a brilliant video, and we could send you a finished product of our A level piece.

Yours sincerely,

Adele-One and Only

This is the song that we have decided to use to make are music video.

Here are the lyrics:-
You've been on my mind, I grow fonder every day
Lose myself in time just thinking of your face
God only knows why it's taken me so long to let my doubts go
You're the only one that I want

I don't know why I'm scared, I've been here before
Every feeling, every word, I've imagined it all
You'll never know if you never try
To forget your past and simply be mine

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
Promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms
So come on and give me a chance
To prove I am the one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts

If I've been on your mind, you hang on every word I say
Lose yourself in time at the mention of my name
Will I ever know how it feels to hold you close
And have you tell me whichever road I choose you'll go

I don't know why I'm scared 'cause I've been here before
Every feeling, every word, I've imagined it all
You'll never know if you never try
To forget your past and simply be mine

I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
Promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms
So come on and give me a chance
To prove I am the one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts

I know it ain't easy giving up your heart
I know it ain't easy giving up your heart

Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me, I've learned it
Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me, I've learned it

Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me, I've learned it
Nobody's perfect
(I know it ain't easy giving up your heart)
Trust me I've learned it

So I dare you to let me be your, your one and only
I promise I'm worthy to hold in your arms
So come on and give me a chance
To prove I am the one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts

Come on and give me a chance
To prove I am the one who can walk that mile
Until the end starts
